Walking & much more is walking in the beautiful protected landscape of Cabo the Gata with an added value! Lots of sunshine and very less rainfall, no mass tourism and high buildings. You'll be surprised by the variety of nature and its interesting Moorish history. We prefer to work with small groups, so there will be no more than 16 persons.

Stay

You'll stay in an Andalusian apartment in Las Negras. Cosy decorated. At 10 meters from the Mediterranean Sea and close to the centre of the small fishermen's village.Bedlinen, towels, washing machine and tv are there.

Walking and art/culture

These walkings are highlights along the coast and inland, allso in a cultural opinion. We'll walk along sites which are famous in filmmaking and Spanish literature.

Program

Day 1 Arrival and a tapas evening to get to know eachother.

Day 2 Discover Cabo de Gata, in the northern direction. The desert of Sorbas and Tabernas. An excursion to the pottery village Sorbas, combined with an exciting walk in the area. Instead of this walk you can visit the Western town Mini Hollywood where the movies like "Once upon a time in the west" and "The good, the bad and the ugly" where filmed. In the evening we'll have dinner together.

Day 3 Excursion to an old Moorish fortress/castle, the Alcazaba, and the beautiful cathedral in the old town of Almeria. We'll have lunch together in a Moorish Téteria.

Day 4 Excursion to the Plaza de Constitution and the spectacular Mirador. After this we will visit the Arabic thermal baths in Aire de Almeria.

Day 5 Walk from Los Escullos to San José. Lovely walk along the coast, about 3 hours. After this there's time to explore San José, a small fishermen's village with its own port, sandy beach, shops and terraces. In the evening we'll have dinner together.

Day 6 Walk through the gorge of Nijar to Huebro; a walk along the surprisingly green gorge, along old Moorish watermills and irrigationsystems. About 3h. After that we'll visit Nijar. A village full of arts and crafts, like wickerwork and ceramics. Nijar is the main village of the Cabo the Gata. A pittoresque square, surrounded by the townhall, church  and some cosy tapasbars.

Day 7 A breathtaking walk from San José to Cabo the Gata with erratic rockformations and little coves, where we'll see the places where worldfamous movies where filmed, like Lawrence of Arabia and Indiana Jones. We'll drive to the point where you can see the saltlakes, salinas, with a lot of pink flamingos. Walking is allso possible; it takes about 2,5h. and is really worthwile.

Day8 Short coastwalk to El Playazo. You'll think you are in North Africa. After this we are going to sculpt in stone and within 2,5h you will make a small sculpture and will give your creativity a boost. In the evening we'll eat together in a tapasbar in Las Negras.

Day 9 Walk through the inland of Cabo the Gata. From the goldmine of Rodalquilar to the pittoresque village of Isleta del Moro. You can choose the long walk of 5h or the shorter version of 3h. A variety in rock formations with small palmito's and esparto. On a clear day you can see the snowy mountains of the Sierra Nevada, the Mulhacen.

Day 10 Coastwalk from Las Negras to San Pedro. Interesting panorama's, ruins of Moorish architecture and deserted beaches. You can choose to walk further to Agua Amarga. In the evening we will enjoy dinner together and a live performance of Flamenco guitarplay and singing.

Day 11 Departure.
